A fashion designer by trade, Olu Femi Frederick (b.1993, Brooklyn, New York) began experimenting with photography while attending the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. Prior to moving to south Florida, Femi spent his adolescence in Jamaica where he developed a fascination with the visual language of the culture. “…there's a visceral almost violent aesthetic practice that lives in the people of Jamaica…” he says. “walk into a dancehall on any night, and you’re struck by this mesmerising display—we sweat, we skin up our faces, all in sacrifice to the rhythm—the goal is to create an image that occupies that space of visceral beauty”. The artist currently lives and works in South Florida.
